George Carlin

As most of you have heard by now George Carlin died of heart failure last night.

For me he was one of the first comedians that I really appreciated. My dad was the one who introduced me to George’s work. At a young age I was still sort of unsure about what he was talking about, but his cadence, timing and use of language (wow he just swore)had me hooked.

Carlin’s career arc was pretty inspiring. Knowing that he had a gift for humor and for speaking he started out as a straight duo act, but after hearing Lenny Bruce he realized who he wanted to be as a comedian. After that he always let himself say what he wanted. The amount of material he had was astounding and his ability to tie his bits together into an outstanding act was truly impressive. He was more a raconteur than a comedian in some respects.

His work has influenced almost every comedian in some way, be it from using any and all language to really honing a clear concise act.
