Earthlings should blow up Earth things!

One of the better comedy sketch shows of the last 15 years or so(maybe even a longer period) was Mr. Show with Bob and David. Some of it was the absurdity of the sketches some it was their ability to somehow tie them together into a coherent show that did not stop. If the show was on another channel besides HBO the show might not have worked as well. By continuing non-stop the show just got funnier as it went along.

Some of the best stuff they did was imagining the future of America as well as lampooning our sensibilities. Ronnie Dobbs, Druggachusetts and many others were dead on. A few days ago I posted the piece about flags and added the David Cross bit about flags. I loved the resonance and the prognostication of the piece.

Well today I stumbled upon this piece from CollegeHumor. It looks at comedy bits that looked into the future and in the end were predictors of the future. The Chris Rock Show talked about OJ Simpson’s “If I did it” book before OJ had it ghostwritten for him. Than they reference one of my favorite sketches from Mr. Show, “Blowing Up the Moon,” which featured one of my favorite lines from Sarah Silverman that is the title of this post.

Here’s the sketch and here is the original piece

It’s a line from a sketch from Mr. Show. The premise being that NASA had run out of things to do so they were going to blow up the moon. All the answers to your question is in the post.
