trouble in burma 2

preface: i am placing a number of links at the top of the post to provide some useful sources. as usual it is not the american media that is doing a credible job on providing information.

learn for yourself what is happening. don’t take one single opinion as gospel, mine included, the truth is never in one answer.

youtube links, burma digest channel on youtube, voice of democratic burma, burmese american democratic alliance, bbc, guardian , mizzima news, mandalay gazette, global voices
today the bbc and other outlets are reporting the official death toll from the myanmar government(when referring to the junta i the future i am going to use , their chosen renaming of the country, and when referring to the country itself i will call it burma) as nine dead in confrontations this morning.

this number is only their total and in reality the number is likely much higher. over night monks were arrested and beaten in the temples by members of the tetmedaw. this is reflected in the numbers of monks involved in protests this morning. there are far fewer monks, but the people are not stopping the demonstrations.

the international community is responding, but with the vetoes of the resolution presented yesterday to the u.n. by china and by russia the response is muted. china is citing its policy of not involving itself in internal affairs of a nation. this is in line with its human rights stance that the treatment of people inside their own country is a states internal right as pointed out by chris g in the comments from the previous post.

i intend on keeping on this topic for as long as i can. keep checking for updates or sign up for the rss feed

    Free Burma!
International Bloggers’ Day for Burma on the 4th of October

International bloggers are preparing an action to support the peaceful revolution in Burma. We want to set a sign for freedom and show our sympathy for these people who are fighting their cruel regime without weapons. These Bloggers are planning to refrain from posting to their blogs on October 4 and just put up one Banner then, underlined with the words „Free Burma!“.
